I put on buttons and made buttonholes. Piecework was hard to do. You had to “make your pay” then a bonus was given for whatever you made after that.
I feel quite clumsy when it comes to sewing. I have only sewn two garments - a blouse that earned me an "A" in a Home Economics class in college, where I learned how to sew, and a dress I wore in a ballroom showcase before realizing I had no talent for sewing. As a result, I gave up and never ventured far enough to learn how to use the buttonhole feature on my Singer machine.
I still vividly remember meticulously aligning the sleeve and front plaids. It was challenging for a newbie!
Hi yippee. I too am not a good seamstress. I knew I wasn’t cut out for working in the mills in New Bedford MA when I sewed a needle through my finger. So I became a teacher instead. No danger from chalk.
